STATEMENT BY RWBRO D.J. OLUBUNMI ROBBIN-COKER, RW DISTRICT GRAND MASTER FOR SIERRA LEONE AND THE GAMBIA (EC) AT THE LAUNCHING OF DISTRICT GRAND LODGE WEBSITE
Welcome to the website of the District Grand Lodge of Sierra Leone and The Gambia!
I am very pleased to be able to welcome all to this advance in the operations of the District. It should make for better communication within the District and without. In addition, it should enhance the dissemination of information about our activities.
The occasion is also very timely as 2009 is going to be a very important year for the District.
Firstly, the Annual Communication/Convocation moves to Banjul on May 30th. It is hoped that the Sierra Leonean Brethren will travel to Banjul in full force.
Secondly, the District will be celebrating its Diamond Jubilee on December 7th. The present plan is to launch the Celebrations in Banjul in May and to follow this up with a series of events in both countries climaxing in Freetown on December 7th.
Promotion of these events is only one example of the uses of the website. Another, is the Educational value. Papers presented at the Annual Seminar should be published and so will other papers and lectures.
The success of the project will depend greatly on the interest and support of all the Brethren and all the Lodges.
Though developed by the English District Grand Lodge, the Irish Inspectorate and the Scottish District as well as other Masonic institutions and Orders are invited to use the website. In fact it would be a great advantage as their contributions will make for fuller use and development. I am hoping that our Brethren in the Diaspora will not only visit the website regularly but also make contributions.
This project was initiated by WBro Reginald King, Worshipful Master of The Progressive Lodge at the last Annual Communication in May 2008. At the repast after the Thanksgiving Service next morning, the Assistant District Grand Master made an unsolicited donation of US$150.00 and an additional £20. This was then followed by spontaneous donations by many Brethren, including our overseas Brethren (£150) and in no time about US$2300 and £170 was collected or pledged. On behalf of the District, I thank WBro King for the hard work which has finally seen the fruition of the project. I also thank all those Brethren who have contributed in various ways and especially WBro Rev Willie Carr for kicking off the financial aspect of the Project.
Finally, I am very pleased to use this medium to wish all Brethren and others who visit our website A HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS 2009.
